Silvia and Samuel came to see us, as the kids had flown the nest, and their spaciousness, light fillled bedroom had been empty for a while. Being a nice sized room they had decided it was their turn to enjoy it.
The idea was to modernise and to keep the spacesiousness and the light.
The back wall is quite large and without windows so Marco suggested a “false wall “ to go behind a tall headboard to break it up a little.
This was made with DM wood and papered with a textured paper. Lights were set in behind to add extra warmth to the already warm tones of walls, paper and fabric.
The head board custom made by us was covered with “Sueder” an ideal material for headboards and upholstery being hard wearing, easy to maintain and to clean.
As shown in the photo a valence was made to match and the old patterned and very colourful chair received a much needed new look.
Marco also gave them the original idea of covering the white frame of the mirror which although a useful item, it now stuck out like a sore thumb.
As I mentioned, they wanted to keep the room full of light and decided for a plain, quite transparent curtain made in the ripple effect. A simple, neat clean cut look which is begining to become very popular.
Of course this type of fabric isn’t ideal in the case of wanting to sleep in late so we installed a black out roller blind that is hardly visable at all when up, and is perfect for the job of keeping out unwanted light. These blinds now come in quite a varity of colours and textures. Silvia and Samuel chose one that blended in quite well with the colour of the walls.
Lastly we installed sliding full length mosquito nets so they can sleep in peace in the summer with the windows open when wanted.
What to do with left over fabric, paper and wood ? Why not make a bedding box ( another suggestion from Marco ) and why get rid of that white corner table and over bed table?. I have to say I think Marco was at his most inventive here and Silvia and Samuel love the new look of the tables covered in a faux grey patchwork leather.
A big thank you to Silvia and Samuel for their custom and for allowing us to publish these photos.
